Orion Intercom Inter-Application and Inter-Network Communications System
Medical Dynamics new Universal Gateway Communication module is ready for distribution. This package couples a powerful data export/import facility with Medical Dynamics databases. Information contained in the Medical Dynamics "Master Demographics" table may be exported to numerous other systems automatically from a workstation on the Medical Dynamics system. The Medical Dynamics system resides on the Hospital Network with "Network Drive" attachments to each location to which export of data is desired.
Getting your data from one place to another is now as easy as 1,2,3,4 if you want to audit the cases or automatically if you choose.

The following illustrates this process:
Hospital desires Medical Dynamics/Cath Lab information available for the following systems:
1. Quality Assurance
2. ADT
3. Purchasing
IS would designate a drive assignment for each of the above departments on the Medical Dynamics workstation serving as the Gateway to the Hospital Network. This could be configured as:
1. Quality Assurance Q:\data\CathLab
2. ADT T:\data\ADT\Cathlab
3. Purchasing P:\CathLab\Invent
The Medical Dynamics "InterCom" module would then monitor times and export the data to these drive locations in an ASCII or other specified file format using the attached fields (Master Demographics Table) from the Medical Dynamics systems. The files would be exported and named using a discrete numbering format based on date and time (to avoid overwriting previously exported put not processed data). Drive designations used by Medical Dynamics systems and not normally available for assignment are:
Master Server M:\
Clinical System E:\
Inventory Server I:\
The data in the Master Demographics Tables does not follow absolute HL7 specifications in order to support compatibility with various Manufacturers Clinical Monitor database field formats. Activating the HL7 formatting feature will permit Demographics data from the Master Demographics Table to be exported in the HL7 field format. (While not a full featured HL7 communication system the data is in HL7 field format.) The Intercom system Exports in ASCII Delimited, Fixed Field, Dbase III, Dbase IV, Binary and other formats in "batch mode". System flexibility comes from multiple export targets triggered by a common timing mechanism for data distribution and management.
Import of data works in the same manner. ASCII files only are imported with the base system. Dbase, MDB, FoxPro, Binary and other formats are available. The ASCII files must be structured with the same field structure as the Master Demographics Table. Other formats may require custom programming.
Intercom is intended as a method of populating and exporting information in the Medical Dynamics Master Demographics Format.
